Getting Started
First launch
Skagway opens to the Welcome to Skagway window. Click Add Videos, pick the folder that holds your videos, and Skagway builds your library from them. Your video files stay where they are.
After the library is open, see How do I…? for some of the powerful tasks you can perform on your videos.
Add your videos
Add Videos is all most people need. Skagway saves its library — your titles, ratings, and tags — in the same folder as the videos, so the two stay together.
- Click Add Videos.
- Choose the folder that holds your videos.
- Skagway indexes the videos in that folder and shows them in the main window. Thumbnails fill in while it builds them in the background.

Videos in more than one folder? Add the other folders, and manage the whole list, under Settings → Data Sources. After adding a folder there, choose File → Scan for New Videos to index it. See Data Sources.
Keep the library somewhere else
Click Advanced Options… instead when you want the library stored apart from your videos: in the standard place on this Mac, or in a folder you choose, such as one on another drive.
- Click Advanced Options….
- Click Use standard location on this Mac, or click Choose Folder… and pick a folder.
- Skagway creates the library there and opens it. It starts out empty.
- Drop your video folders on Drag videos here, or choose File → Add Folder… (⇧⌘O) and click Scan.
Advanced Options… opens the same window as File → Change Library Location…. See Change Library Location….
